Israel thwarted a weapons smuggling attempt from Jordan to Palestinians in the West Bank via the Dead Sea, Israeli military sources said. The motor boat was filled with AK-47 assault rifles, magazines and additional weaponry, AFP reported. The two men aboard the boat were apprehended. It has not been confirmed whether they are of Palestinian or Jordanian origin. The Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, is considered "dead" because of its extremely high concentration of salinity. It... [More]
In the face of Iran's continued pursuit of a nuclear weapon, Israel and the United States will hold a large-scale missile defense exercise in the beginning of next year aimed at improving operational coordination between both countries' defense systems. Called Juniper Cobra, the exercise will be held in early 2012 and will include the Arrow 2 and Iron Dome as well as America's THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and the ship-based Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System... [More]
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday warned Israel against "stealing Lebanon's resources out of its territorial waters." In a televised speech marking the fifth anniversary of the Second Lebanon War, Nasrallah promised retaliation against Israeli attempts to begin excavation of natural resources in what he claims are Lebanon's territorial waters. Israel's cabinet on July 10 approved the demarcation of the northern maritime border with Lebanon, in an effort to protect economic rights... [More]
WASHINGTON - A US House subcommittee unveiled a foreign assistance package Tuesday that fully funds aid to Israel but gives money to its neighbors on conditions, including a provision that would bar the Palestinian Authority from receiving aid if it seeks statehood at the UN or includes Hamas in a unity government. The bill, which will be reviewed by the US House Appropriations Subcommittee for Foreign Operations on Wednesday, includes $3.075 billion for Israel as part of the 10-year memorandum of understanding between the two countries... [More]
The Palestinian Authority spends more than $5 million a month paying salaries to terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons, according to a Palestinian Media Watch report presented to congressmen in Washington on Tuesday. According to the report, written by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik, such payments contravene US law, which prohibits funding of any person who "engages in, or has engaged in terrorist activity. "The US funds the PA's general budget," the document reads... [More]
The Bible is an "ancient holy book" that is irrelevant to the Palestinian Authority's aim to take over all of Judea and Samaria from the Jews, a PA activist said in a rare debate last week with a "settler" in a Washington synagogue. The Bible is full of "medieval" traditions that should not be considered or influence decisions on whether or not to create the Palestinian Authority as an independent state within Israel's borders, Dr. Hussein Ibish, Senior Fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine... [More]
Free open-heart surgery in Israel for Amy, 12-year-old from Haiti. Israeli hospitals treat many Palestinian children from Gaza, West Bank. Israel set up field hospitals in Japan, Haiti after earthquakes. Amy Mariolata, a 12-year-old girl from a village near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, was recently saved by a rare open-heart surgery performed in Israel. Amy was treated after Israeli doctors learned that she had rheumatic heart disease at the Israeli field hospital in Haiti. Within days of Haiti's earthquake... [More]
Foreign Ministry officials paid close attention on Tuesday to an op-ed in the Turkish press the day before that said if Israel did not apologize for the Mavi Marmara incident, Turkey would go from Israel's friend to opponent. The sense in Jerusalem was that this piece reflected Turkish government policy, the officials said. Under the headline "Plan B for Israel: From losing a friend to gaining an opponent," Barcin Yinanc wrote in Hurriyet that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent statement that Turkey... [More]
There is evidence of the reemergence of a terrorist wing of the Palestinian Authority that purportedly was disbanded as a condition for continued U.S. and international financial aid. In a rare move, the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the so-called military wing of PA President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah organization, last week issued an official pamphlet condemning Israel for the conviction of one of its members. An Israeli court in the city of Beer Sheva convicted Fatah gunmen Khalid Abu Amsha, a member... [More]
Israeli mobile satellite navigation start-up Waze has signed a deal with ABC's local channel in Los Angeles that will help motorists avoid traffic congestion. Waze founder Uri Levine said his company doubled its customer base in the past six months to nearly five million and that membership is growing by 500,000 new users per month. "We are on a verge of reaching critical mass on many markets," Levine said. "In the end we want to be the Facebook of drivers." he 2009-founded Waze... [More]
