Let’s get something straight right here, right now. The Palestinian Authority walked from direct talks with Israel last September yet now have decided to break bread with a known terrorist organization, Hamas, who openly calls for Israel’s demise. How is that for making good on peace?
A Hamas-run Palestinian state is about the furthest away from peace one could get. A Hamas-run Palestinian state has a history of terrorism against both Israel and the Palestinian Authority. A Hamas-run Palestinian state is nothing more than an Iranian outpost in the Middle East.
It’s unlikely the US will ever support such subversive, non-peace seeking actions. Honestly, one wonders if the PA has caught wind of the Alzheimer’s epidemic. It was only four years ago when Hamas and the PA signed their first unity agreement only to have Hamas seize the Gaza Strip. Who knows how long this one will last? And what, if anything, does it mean for Gilad Shalit? Israel has been waiting 5 years for Gilad, and 63 for peace.
Khaled Abu Toameh, a Jpost.com staff writer detailed more about Hamas and its new agreement with Fatah in his article: Hamas: National unity gov’t won’t take part in peace talks:
Mahmoud Zahar says new Hamas-Fatah agreement doesn’t mean terror group will recognize Israel or that it will participate in peace negotiations; Netanyahu says PA must choose between peace with Israel, peace with Hamas.
