A senior Israeli military officer said thousands of troops in the north are on alert following the fall of the Lebanese government.
Authorities are concerned that the political turmoil in Lebanon will spill over into renewed violence on the Lebanese-Israel border.
Hizbullah and its allies pulled out of the Lebanese government on Wednesday, causing it to collapse.
They bolted over the government's insistence on cooperating with a U.N. tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Hizbullah expects the tribunal to indict some of its members.(AP)
