Vayikra (He Called)
Moses stood, gazing as the cloud of His glory continued to fill the Tent of Meeting. Why am I not able to enter into His presence? I have been with Him at the burning bush, on the mountain, and have even seen Him in a way no other man has as He hid me in the cleft of the rock. There is something different here. What is it?
As Moses continued to try and process this event with his mind and his heart, it hit him what was happening. It is an emotion from Him of happiness and fulfillment that is so overwhelming. The Almighty has found a place of completeness in the midst of His people. It is His overwhelming joy that has made His presence so strong on this day!
The very thought of this caused Moses to stagger backwards. If it had not been for the quick actions of Joshua, he once again would have hit the ground hard as his strength left him. Joshua helped Moses to a sitting position on a rock. For the longest time, Moses sat, tears streaming down his cheeks, speechless. He finally got his composure and looked to Joshua, "My son, the Creator of the Universe has a void. We fill that void in Him!"
All around the camp, the Hebrews could be seen sitting in front of their tents staring at the new brilliance of the cloud that covered the tent. Way into the evening, as the cloud changed into an even brighter pillar of fire, there was silence as the people were lost, each in their own thoughts.
It was the next afternoon when Moses was finally able to enter the tent of meeting. As soon as he walked in, Elohim began to speak to him. The words were about the sacrifices the Hebrews were to offer to Elohim. It struck Moses that, just as the instructions for the Tabernacle, the instructions for the offerings were in exacting detail. Once again, his mind was able to think on multiple planes at the same time and, yet, never lose focus of the words being spoken to him.
These sacrifices are not only about us. Nor are they only about the animals which will be killed. The purpose of each of these sacrifices is to remind us of the fine line between His judgment of sin brought into this world through Adam and His desire to dwell with us. Each of these sacrifices point us back to the disobedience of Adam and how, with that one man, sin entered the world. Elohim had every right to execute the judgment of death upon Adam; yet, in His mercy, He provided a blood sacrifice to cover his sin. With the blood of bulls, goats, and lambs, how can these do more than cover his or our sins? There must be more that is not being revealed to me at this time.
Moses found himself staring into the images of the sacrifices that would be performed in this place, far into the future. There was something there, inside each one, which he could barely make out. It was as if he was seeing something, the image of a man within each of the sacrifices. He had seen these images before, the familiar face of one who was to come. These sacrifices are a shadow of Him. They not only point back to the sins we need forgiveness from, but also forward to a work that has already been done, but is yet to be done. Time seemed to expand and contract before him. It was like the individual strands of the very Tabernacle that he stood in now, woven together as a whole unit. Each was a symbol that would stretch for an eternity, uncountable. He is the sacrifice for the willful sin we are born into through Adam and will continue to be until the end of days!
Moses knew that, with this revelation, every word he had received and would receive would have a new and exciting meaning. He also knew that it had not been in his own flesh that these things had been revealed to him. This revelation, though he did not understand it all, would forever change the way he lived. This changed everything!
