Christians and Christian converts in Iran faced double threats and pressures by the Islamic Republic in 1390 (Persian year) just as in previous years. Now the year 1390 is finished and the New Year begins (starting March 20) in Iran while prisons all over the country are packed with people who are being held behind bars and away from their loved ones only because of being dissidents.
Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News ) - In 1390, growth in the number of arrests, detentions and pressure on those who turn away from Islam or their inherited religion, especially on Christian converts, was only one part of the Islamic Republic’s objection towards any kind of different thinking.
During last year, the pressure on Christian converts continued to the extent that in addition to house churches, it also affected official churches and forced some of them to cancel their Farsi services following an order by security authorities. By doing this, they hoped to prevent people or Christian converts from going to churches. The wave of summons and arrests significantly grew after Christmas and New Year. These post-Christmas attacks were the second stage of pressures on Christians after Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, gave a green light for dealing with any kind of different thinking other than Islamic principles.
Speaking of threats and pressures by the Islamic Republic towards Christian converts, the importance and effect of religious and regime media, and the public relations efforts of Islamic clerics who depend on the regime, should not be ignored. It is totally obvious that having free media in the Islamic Republic is more like a dream. Thus, these tribunes which are being financially supported by the intelligence services, Revolutionary Guard and Basij, or depend on regime bases, deeply affect the judicial and ruling system and the way they treat Christians.
