1.  9/11 Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theories Alive and WellNew York, NY - Ten years after 9/11, anti-Semitic conspiracy theories surrounding the attacks are "alive and well" and fueled by an entrenched propaganda industry, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which today issued a new report showing how these theories have grown and evolved over the last decade.

In "Decade of Deceit: Anti-Semitic 9/11 Conspiracy Theories 10 Years Later," ADL looks at the individuals who continue to circulate distorted conspiracy theories about 9/11, including the claim that the Jews or Israel perpetrated the attacks instead of Al Qaeda.  A new chorus of voices - who claim not to be anti-Jewish but simply anti-Zionist - have become the most popular promoters of these ideas.

"It is shocking that nearly a decade after 9/11, we are still confronted with those who continue to deny the historical record of 9/11 or who hold fast to anti-Semitic myths about that horrific day," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.

"For ten years, the historical record has been warped and manipulated by anti-Semites intent on creating their false version of history. One of the saddest outcomes of 9/11 is that despite the fact that this national tragedy that brought so many Americans together, there remains this small group of vocal bigots who, nearly a decade later, are still seeking to promote and sell their own sinister agenda of blaming Jews and Israel."

The most prominent promoters of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories today are less often white supremacists and right-wing anti-Semites. Rather they more commonly are members of a group of anti-Israel conspiracists who see the 9/11 attacks as one of a series of "false flag" operations that Israel has carried out to manufacture a war against its Muslim enemies.

According to the League's analysis, while the prevalence of certain conspiracy theories has changed over the last decade, one constant has been the penchant to accuse Jews and Israel of planning and executing the 9/11 attacks.

The most popular conspiratorial allegations include the following: variations of this theory assert that the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, was behind the 9/11 attacks; the "proof" is in the "five dancing Israelis" arrested on 9/11 who were allegedly celebrating as the Twin Towers burned.

Proponents of this theory claim that neo-conservative American officials of Jewish faith within the Bush Administration methodically worked out a plan with the assistance of the Mossad to carry out the attacks to benefit Israel. This theory alleges that these officials orchestrated a plan well before 9/11, with the goal of invading Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries to allow the U.S. and Israel to seize control of resources in that area."

(Excerpts of an article by Anti-Defamation League, August 30, 2011)

Prayer Focus

Pray that truth will triumph over falsehood and people will recognize these allegations as lies.  Pray that families of 9/11 victims who still suffer loss will receive a new measure of healing in their hearts during memorial services held this weekend.

Scripture

"'For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,' says the LORD, 'because they called you an outcast saying: "This is Zion; no one seeks her'" (Jeremiah 30:17).

2.  US Will Veto Palestinian Statehood Bid at UN Security CouncilAfter months of vague expressions of opposition, the United States officially confirmed on Thursday that they will veto a Palestinian statehood bid at the United Nations Security Council should such a bid be made. Speaking with reporters, State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that "if something comes to a vote in the UN Security Council, the US will veto."  Nuland expressed surprise that Sherman's expression of the veto stance drew such a "press furor."

"It should not come as a shock to anyone in this room that the US opposes a move in New York by the Palestinians to try to establish a state that can only be achieved through negotiations," said Nuland. US officials had previously expressed opposition to the move in varied ways, but had yet to explicitly threaten the veto in public.

However, despite the commitment, the Palestinians could still force the Americans to use the veto, or avoid the Security Council altogether and seek a more symbolic and limited resolution from the UN General Assembly. While the Council is able to pass a legally-binding resolution that would enable full Palestinian statehood membership at the UN, the General Assembly can only upgrade their status to a nonvoting observer.

Despite the lack of legal power resulting from such a move, the upgraded status could help the Palestinians in a diplomatic and legal offensive against Israel. If the Palestinians go to the UN General Assembly, the US would not be able to veto a resolution there and the Palestinians enjoy broad support from the many Arab states and nations outside the West. According to Sherman, the US does not expect the Palestinians to go to the Security Council. However, they are still concerned about their turning to the General Assembly.

Prayer Focus
Thank God that the United States is remaining strong in this matter. Praise God that nothing the nations do can thwart God's will for Israel.

Scripture
"The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, 'Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand…For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?'" (Isaiah 14:24, 27).

3.  Shin Bet Uncovers Hamas Terror CellsCleared for publication: A joint Shin Bet [Israel internal security], IDF [Israel Defense Forces], and police operation, which took place over the past few months, has led to the discovery of several Hamas terror cells, which were plotting attacks in Israel.

According to information obtained by Ynet on Wednesday [September 7], only one of the cells was able to carry out its nefarious plan, planting a bomb at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem in March. One British tourist was killed and 47 people were injured in the attack.

A senior Shin Bet official told Ynet that the widespread terror organization was indicative of a concentrated effort by Hamas to rebuild its military infrastructure in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] as means of carrying out attacks against Israeli targets.

The infrastructure uncovered, he added, revealed the cooperation within Hamas' own factions, including the participation of overseas Hamas bases and growing attempts to smuggle weapons from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank. As part of the operation, dozens of Hamas operatives, comprising at least 13 terror cells, were arrested across the West Bank over the past few weeks.

Ynet has learned that the terror attacks thwarted included a suicide attack by a bomber who was supposed to blow himself up In Jerusalem's Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood. The explosives meant for the attack included a bag which was to conceal a fire extinguisher packed with three kilograms [6.6 pounds] of explosive and topped with shrapnel.

The device was discovered at the Ras al-Amud home of a 23-year-old Azhak Arrafa, a resident of east Jerusalem who has an Israeli ID. He was later identified as a Hamas operative. Following Arrafa's arrest, Israeli security forces were able to arrest the would-be suicide bomber, Said Qawasmeh (20) from Hebron.

The investigation also linked Arrafa to the attack in the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. He admitted his involvement in the case and confessed to planning a second attack - an abduction of an Israeli citizen in the area.

According to available information, Arrafa and Qawasmeh were members of a terror cell that began its operations in August. The cell's infrastructure was provided by Hamas police in Syria, which transferred funds to the West Bank cell via courier. The cell's Syrian masters also relayed instruction for future terror attacks, including the foiled abduction attack.

Israeli intelligence officers were able to identify the courier as Iman al-Adm, a 39-year-old Jordanian national who has a Palestinian ID. He was arrested while trying to return to Jordan.

His interrogation revealed that he had undergone extensive military training in Syria and was involved in Hamas operations worldwide, including in Syria, Turkey, and China.

Security forces raids conducted as part of the operation resulted in dozens of arrests, mostly of terror operatives who were incarcerated in Israel at one time or another for terror-related offenses.

Israeli intelligence officers uncovered a Hamas cell based in Ketziot Prison [Israel's prison for Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza, near the Egyptian border], whose leaders tried to recruit prisoners who were about to be released to carry out attacks on Israeli targets in the West Bank.

The recruits were told to focus on abducting IDF soldiers, who would be used as bargaining chips in a future prisoner exchange deal.  Intelligence sources told Ynet that the West Bank infrastructure was partially funded by Gaza-based Hamas elements.

In June, Shin Bet and IDF officers were able to expose a Hamas terror cell preparing to abduct IDF soldiers. The West Bank-based cell received its instruction from Gaza and was scheduled to receive smuggled arms to be used in the abduction.

One of the operatives arrested in connection to the foiled abduction, 42-year-old Shaher Skaphi from Hebron, detailed in his interrogation exactly how his cell was instructed to kidnap and guard an Israeli solider, and when the time came, how to negotiate for his release in exchange for Hamas prisoners held in Israel.

(Excerpts of an article by Hanan Greenberg, Ynetnews, September 7, 2011, Yair Altman contributed to this report)
Prayer Focus
Praise God that this Hamas terror cell was apprehended! Pray that God will continue to grace security forces with secret intelligence and insight to uncover hidden threats against Israel.

Scripture
"The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God who avenges me, and subdues the peoples under me; He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man"(Psalm 18:46-48).

4.  Turkish Downgrade with Israel Raises ConcernsTurkey's highly-publicized and dramatic downgrade in ties with Israel has targeted diplomacy and military ties, as well as making legal threats. Now the specter of damage to the nations' economic links has been raised as well, although it appears things remain stable there for now.

The Turkish sanctions, first announced last Friday [September 2], are an escalation in their demand that Israel formally apologize for the 2010 Gaza flotilla incident. On May 31, 2010, Israeli soldiers sent to commandeer the Turkish Mavi Marmara ship in defense of the naval blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza were attacked by activists.

In the resulting melee, nine of the activists - all with links to Turkey - were killed. Israel has expressed regret at the loss of life, but Turkey is demanding a stronger apology and compensation for the dead activists' families.

As a result of the disagreement, the Turks have officially launched "Plan B" in relation to Israel. The sanctions announced by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, and later posted on the Turkish Foreign Ministry Web site, included a noteworthy downgrade in diplomatic relations so that there is no Israeli ambassador or deputy ambassador presence in the country, as well as a suspension of military agreements.

Potentially more serious is the announced intention by the Turks to challenge the legality of Israel's naval blockade on the Gaza Strip - intended to prevent arms smuggling - at the United Nation's International Court of Justice.

Israel received a boost to the blockade's status from the UN's Palmer Report on the Mavi Marmara affair, which said the blockade was legal, while encouraging Israel to continue to relax it. However, the Palmer committee was not intended to be a court of law.

Following the initial announcement of Turkish sanctions, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office announced on Saturday their response to the UN's Palmer Report. "Israel once again expresses its regret over the loss of life, but will not apologize for its soldiers taking action to defend their lives. As any other state, Israel has the right to defend its civilians and soldiers," said the statement.

Meanwhile, though the sanctions apparently have not included trade ties, potential economic damage from the rift is causing concern. Bank of Israel head Stanley Fischer on Monday warned of potential damage to Israeli trade: "Turkey is a significant trading partner for Israel, and the consequences of damage to trade with Turkey would be serious for Israel." With the back and forth economic-damage headlines in the background, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange watched their flagship index drop 2.79% on Tuesday.

Prayer Focus
Pray that Israel will not depend on Turkey for economic stability but will instead see that God's blessings are bountiful for those who trust in Him.

Scripture
"And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God…The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you" (Deuteronomy 28:2, 8).

5.  Israelis Held in Istanbul AirportIsraeli passengers on board a Turkish Airlines flight that landed in Istanbul on Monday [September 5] morning were detained by local police after their passports had been taken away from them. Flight 793 departed from Ben Gurion International Airport as planned at 5 a.m. and landed two hours later in Istanbul.

"They asked us why we came here, opened our bags, checked how much money we have and what we have on our laptops," one of the passengers told Ynet. "I think that the police officers didn't even know what they were looking for," he added.

"They apparently got an order to detain us, one by one. Everyone was in shock; we didn't know what they were going to do to us. Obviously this was done intentionally, in order to create an unpleasant feeling." Foreign Ministry officials said they were currently looking into the incident. Turkey's ministry of foreign affairs told the officials that no order was issued to detain Israelis.

Israel is also making efforts to find out who is responsible for the detention, and whether this was an unusual occurrence or part of a new policy. R' and D', businessmen who were on the flight said the attitude of the police officers at the airport was estranged.

"We have been doing business in Turkey for 13 years. They held all Israelis. Whoever doesn't have to work here shouldn't come. They spoke rudely and acted improperly. People missed their connections but they didn't care," he said.

According to the two, "As soon as they saw an Israeli, they told him to move on to questioning. All the Israelis were together and they accumulated the passports in one pile. I have never seen such a thing. I have also never seen them behaving in such disrespect. I don't know what will be the atmosphere on the street. I don't know what to expect. The papers from yesterday are filled with incitement.

"They asked us how long we are planning to stay, gesturing with their hands to stay put. No explanations were given. They gave back our passports after almost two hours," the two added. The passengers on board described a sense of anxiety and a desire to return home. "This feels like the point of no return. Whatever we have felt until now, it will not be the same anymore."

The incident is the latest deterioration in the relations between Israel and Turkey, which culminated on Friday after Turkey expelled the Israeli ambassador following Israel's refusal to apologize over the takeover of a Gaza-bound Turkish vessel in 2010 and the publication of the UN's Palmer Report.

On Sunday, it was reported that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slated to visit Egypt and Gaza soon to sign strategic cooperation agreements with Cairo.

(By Attali Somfalvi, Ynetnews, September 5, 2011)
Prayer Focus
Praise God that nothing serious came from this incident! Turkey, as all other nations, must decide if they will be Israel's friend or face very grave consequences. Pray that the nations choose wisely.

Scripture

"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will diminish their brightness. The LORD also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the LORD will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel" (Joel 3:14-16).

6.  Egyptian Government to Close Gaza Smuggling TunnelsThe Egyptian government announced on Saturday [September 3] that it has begun operations to close smuggling tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. The move is seen as a clear indication that the successor government to Hosni Mubarak is interested in keeping a lid on tensions with Israel.

A terrorist attack last month that originated on Egyptian soil and left eight Israelis dead brought matters to a head. Israeli troops in hot pursuit of the terrorists mistakenly killed three Egyptian policemen. Security officials believe that from the time Mubarak's downfall became apparent until the attack, a vacuum existed during which time smuggling of arms and movement of terrorists went unimpeded.

Prayer Focus
Praise God for Egypt's sensitivity to keep peace with Israel! Pray that these security measures will be so effective that this border will become impenetrable for terrorist activity.

Scripture
"…LORD God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts" (1 Kings 8:23).

7.  Haredi, Arab Saving Lives Together"An Arab and a haredi [ultra-Orthodox] are riding a motorbike." No, this is not the beginning of a joke. The story of Fadi Bahir and Hezy Roth can definitely be adapted into a feature film: Imagine an ultra-Orthodox man dressed in black entering an Arab neighborhood in east Jerusalem in order to save someone's life.

Hours later, an Arab man runs into the heart of the haredi neighborhood of Mea Shearim [in Jerusalem] in order to provide medical care. This is their story. Hezy and Fadi volunteer together at United Hatzalah, an emergency medical services organization similar to Magen David Adom. Hezy is a resident of Mea Shearim, while Fadi lives in the Arab neighborhood of At-Tur.

Arab residents from east Jerusalem have recently began volunteering at United Hatzalah, joining the organization's 1,800 volunteers - most of them haredim. They help mostly in Arab neighborhoods, which the Jewish volunteers are often afraid to enter.

One of the new volunteers, Fadi Bahir, asked to work with a haredi volunteer. He teamed up with Hezy Roth, and together they tour Jerusalem's haredi neighborhoods and visit the nearby Mount of Olives, which At-Tur is built on. Hezy comes from his fish shop, and Fadi from his work as a maintenance man at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"This whole issue is really insane," Fadi says, smiling. "I'm approached by people in the middle of Mea Shearim, asking me for help. I have found myself more than once, with or without Hezy, in the middle of a yeshiva [Jewish religious school] performing resuscitation."

It turns out that the Arab and haredi streets have quite a lot in common. The massive Magen David Adom ambulances find it difficult to make their way between the allies and are not familiar with the location of houses, and paramedics are sometimes afraid of visiting hostile places.

This is where the interfaith team comes in: They don't [need] any police escort and can easily find their way on their motorbikes. "It can sometimes take an ambulance 50 minutes to arrive," says Fadi. "The person can die 10 times on the way. Take [the east Jerusalem village of] Silwan [just below the Temple Mount], for example. There are no addresses or number there."

And Hezy adds, "When a person is in danger, he doesn't care who saves him. This connection seems completely natural to us, but we're each considered 'weirdoes' in each other's neighborhoods."

"Fadi and Hezy are proof that engaging in saving lives overcomes politics," says United Hatzalah President Eli Beer. "Because we are an operational lifesaving organization, which is always prepared for emergencies, we know that a united front is required to serve the Israeli public in the best way possible."

(Excerpts of an article by Akiva Novick, Ynetnews, September 8, 2011)

Prayer Focus
Praise God for Fadi and Hezy! Pray that their friendship and work together will be a testimony to many, and more Palestinians and Israelis will be encouraged to trust one another.

Scripture

"And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God" (Nehemiah 6:16).

8.  Business as the Road to Peace with Palestinians"Despite setbacks, cooperation between Israel and its neighbors exists - and it can go on," said Israel's Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development Silvan Shalom at a conference on regional economic cooperation in Tel Aviv Monday (Sept. 5).

Shalom pointed out that regional cooperation exists on many levels - official, public and private - and that direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians would only improve the situation. The theme of the conference was business paving the way to peace. Notable leaders, including Israeli President Shimon Peres, stressed the important role security plays in developing economies.

Special Envoy for the Middle East Quartet Tony Blair said he is optimistic about Israeli-Palestinian peace. "Economics could never be a substitute for politics. However, what we've been trying to do over the past few years is significant. You don't make peace by people sitting in rooms. People make it," explained Blair. He added that the potential for economic growth is enormous, "particularly if there is [a peace] agreement" among Israelis and Palestinians.

Blair cited joint Israeli-Palestinian achievements, such as the Jalameh vehicular crossing that has connected communities in the northern West Bank [Judea and Samaria] to the Arab communities in northern Israel, helping to revitalize the economy of the West Bank city of Jenin.

Opened recently with Israeli, U.S. and Quartet assistance, the crossing facilitates commerce and movement to Jenin - approximately 15,000 Israeli Arabs move to and from Jenin each day and tourist buses from Israel also enter the West Bank through the crossing - a factor that contributed to Jenin's 16% growth in the first half of 2011.

France's special envoy to the Middle East peace process for economic, educational and cultural aspects Valerie Hoffenberg echoed Blair's sentiment. Hoffenberg stated that through cooperation with various Israeli ministries, the Palestinian government was able to successfully create an industrial zone in Bethlehem that is already in its second year.

"We have to prepare for the day 'after'," said Hoffenberg, referring to an action plan that goes beyond the Palestinian push for a unilateral declaration of state at the United Nations in September.

"The spirit of cooperation and collaboration must continue. Going to the U.N. in September is not the answer; we are worried about what happens after September and that it could endanger some of our projects," explained Hoffenberg.

Palestinian businessman Dr. Ismail Jebrani, who now runs one of the West Bank's largest dairy-farms, recounted how he turned to an Israeli kibbutz company, SAE Afikim, to help address a milk shortage in the Palestinian territory. SAE Afikim helped create his state-of-the-art dairy farm, now one of the "largest and most modern companies in the West Bank," said Jubrani.

The farm, located near Hebron, now employs 250 people (up from 20) and has 1,200 cows. The Israeli technology helped the Palestinian farmers increase their herd and take advantage of all portions of the cow's milk through computerized equipment.

(Excerpts of an article by The Israel Project, September 6, 2011)

Prayer Focus
Praise God for these efforts and pray that more economic projects will provide opportunity for Israel to bless its Arab neighbors.

Scripture
"And they shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations" (Isaiah 61:4).
