Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes:
On May 19, 2011, the United States intends to promote democratic development in Egypt and Tunisia with massive financial aid. President Barack Obama will announce in the long awaited keynote speech about the so-called Arab Spring the release of Egypt of nearly a billion dollars in debts, an advisor to the president said Wednesday in Washington. The New York Times and Washington Post gave coinciding reports that Obama is planning an aid package valued at 2 billion dollar (1.4 billion Euro) that not only comprises the release of debt but also credit guarantees as well. Obama will also advocate for comprehensive international aid for Tunisia, according to reports from Washington.
Citizen revolts have led to the fall of autocratic governments in both countries and to even longer lasting rebellions in all of the Arab world.
