The President of the European Union (EU) parliament said Tuesday that a unilateral move by the Palestinian Authority toward statehood could be "dangerous." The President, Jerzy Buzek, made the comments during a visit to Ramallah, where he met with the Palestinian Authority's Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad. Buzek said he "understood" the PA's position on statehood, but added that it could complicate peace efforts. He stressed the importance of achieving peace through negotiations... [More] |
Amid the turmoil of uprisings and protests across the Middle and North Africa, Iran has covertly and illegally stepped up its production of long-range missiles with help from North Korea and 10 times smuggled weapons to Hamas and the Taliban, according to separate United Nations reports. One of the missiles - the Sejil-1 - reportedly can reach as far as 1,243 miles (2,000 km). Another, the Shahab-3, has a striking distance of 559 miles (900 km). Newt Gingrich told Republican party Jews Sunday night that if he becomes the next U.S. president, he will cut off funds to the United Nations if it recognizes the Palestinian Authority and will move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. U.S. President Barack Obama was the first presidential candidate in more than two decades who did not promise in his campaign to relocate the embassy. Two weeks ago, he again exercised a presidential waiver, citing "national security"... [More] |
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, visiting Italy, held out an olive branch on Monday for Turkey following Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's re-election. Erdogan won the poll by a smaller majority than he hoped for. Relations between Israel and Turkey, its best regional friend until two years ago, have deteriorated to the point that Turkey openly supports Hamas and Syria and backs the terror-linked IHH organization that is sponsoring a re-run of the last year's disastrous flotilla aimed... "Several hundred police officers are taking part in that, and it is leading up to the forthcoming months... [More] |
After a five month interregnum, Lebanon has a government, under premier Najib Mikati. The bad news is that it is essentially a Hizbullah government. This is a culmination of the Shiite terror group's rise to power. The second victor is Syria. Despite his more pressing preoccupations Bashar Assad intervened to break a logjam in the negotiating process posed by Michel Aoun, the accomodationist Maronite leader. In a telephone call, the Syrian leader congratulated Lebanese President Michel... [More] |

About 1,350,000 visitors arrived in Israel in the period January-May 2011 (2% less than the same period last year). According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 268,000 of all the entries for... A group of Arabs and left-wing provocateurs entered the Jewish town of Eli on Tuesday and started several fires, which subsequently spread to their own nearby olive groves. The incident, which occurred Tuesday morning, is not the first in which Arabs from the adjacent village of Karayut have infiltrated Eli's perimeter to commit arson according to security officials who went to investigate the fire. "We saw smoke near our security road shortly after 11:00 and went to investigate," related a... [More] |
