Welt Online published a highly interesting article yesterday (26 Nov.) with the enlightening headline “Slitting the Throat in the Name of Honor“. We are interested to see sometime in the distant future when it won’t be politically incorrect among just us to say “in the name of Islam” – but, of course, violence against women, forced marriages and murders of (honor) shame have nothing to do with the most Peaceful of all Religions™. Certainly, the fact that this very thing is prescribed and commanded in the Quran and the Hadiths can be traced back to banal errors in translation and interpretation.

In the above video, Kuwaiti Shaykh Yasir al-Habib, a Shi'a, explains and justifies the Islamic practice of zawaj al-mut'a, or temporary marriage (lit. 'pleasure marriage'), which is many respects Islamically-sanctioned prostitution. In the longer clip which I took this excerpted portion from, Shaykh al-Habib starts out by saying that Sunnis often try to embarrass Shi'a by saying that they're going to marry their sisters in a pleasure marriage.

After their own sham marriage, Mohamed Tanin, 25, and Maria Marques,  47, flew four Portuguese women to London to wed Tanin's Bangladeshi friends, who paid him £2,000 for each bride, it is alleged.A Bangladeshi student married a woman 22 years his senior to remain in Britain and then flew four more 'brides' into the UK to wed his friends in sham marriages, a court heard.
