KUWAIT:
Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs
Mutlaq Al-Qarawi explained that the ministry does not issue licenses for
building churches. He added that the ministry receives the request and
refers it directly to the municipality which has the authority to
approve the request and allocate land or to reject it.
Meanwhile,
Sheikh Nathem Al-Mesbah said that a question should be directed to the
Fatwa Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs regarding
its opinion about building churches in Muslim countries. He added that
he believes that building churches in the Arabian Peninsula is
impermissible while Sheikh Mohammad Homoud Al-Jendi also concurs.
Imam
at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmad Al-Kous said
that Kuwait is part of the Arabian Peninsula, adding that Sheikh Ibn Baz
said that "religious scholars agree on not allowing the building of
churches in Muslim countries, and that the new ones should be
destroyed."
