Several churches in northern Nigeria were bombed December 25, in what has been described as "Nigeria's blackest Christmas ever." The attacks, perpetrated by the Muslim militant group Boko Haram, killed at least 39 people, "the majority dying on the steps of a Catholic church [in Madalla near the capital of Abuja] after celebrating Christmas Mass as blood pooled in dust from a massive explosion." Charred bodies and dismembered limbs lay scattered around the destroyed church.

As usual, the world offered the requisite, if perfunctory, condemnations. Of note, however, is the word so many Western leaders, from theWhite House to the Vatican, used to characterize this latest Muslim attack on Christians—"senseless"—a word that implies no motive, no goal, no rhyme, no reason.
Although Boko Haram has been bellowing its straightforward and far from "senseless" goals for a decade—enforcing Sharia law and, in conjunction, subjugating if not eliminating Nigeria's Christians—one can see why so many are decrying the Christmas Day bombings as "senseless": the mainstream media's coverage offers little by way of context or continuity concerning the attacks.
Consider the New York Times' coverage, as reported by Adam Nossiter, in an article titled "Nigerian Group Escalates Violence With Church Attacks":

Unclepaul Oramx It was on 25th sun day morning,people were so happy families were going to church never knowing their untimely ending,it happen that this touts known to be Almajiris came to church with their ride,there intent was to run through into d full church, adults where inside cos d church is large but remnant were outside with majority of children who are innocent.the vehicle were prevented from entery by an mod officer,so when they saw that they were prevented,they had to throw in the bomb,which shook the entire madalla,not only in maddalla but also in livin faith at kaduna road,infact my house was infected by this blast,some of my friend came out luckily wit there life............shalom

Unclepaul Oramx As a matter of fact come and behold complete families lying on floor with there intestine scattered allover,human eyes were shootin out all over the place,heads were busting,human pieces were gathered with human hands,blood and guts all over,see children roasted alive,some kid were crying lookin at there scattared parents,the bomb even made a deep depression while buildins were recked in pieces,burnt cars,infact this boko are wicked,endangering the life of innocent muslims and peoples,infact,if not for millitary intervention,there would hav been more,beside more bombs were discovered around this arena
