Cleansing the Leper

This portion addresses the Law of the Leper in the day he is cleansed. An elaborate procedure is detailed in this portion begging the question, "Why is the law of the cleansing of a leper so detailed in the Torah?" First, it is a rare event and second, it is part of a miracle because leprosy is an incurable disease. Thus, this portion has a spiritual message about resurrection. A leper is considered to be a walking dead person. If he is cleansed, it is as though he was brought back from the dead. The final part of this portion deals with the Laws of Niddah (the laws of uncleaness). This includes any and all forms of discharge from a person's body. In particular, it deals with a woman's monthly cycle. All of these laws establish when a person may or may not go to the temple in Jerusalem to worship the Lord.
