Fears quashed as mosque approved


A government inspector has overruled Town Hall planners for the second time in a week and given the go-ahead for a city mosque.

The Meenawala Charitable Foundation has been given permission to build a two-storey place of worship on the corner of Sharoe Green Lane and Kingsfold Avenue in Fulwood, Preston, following an appeal.
Planners at Preston Council had refused the application on the former maternity hospital site due to road and pedestrian safety concerns, and after a raft of objections from residents.
But following a two-day hearing and site visit, inspector Louise Crosby, who also oversaw the successful Masjid-E-Salaam appeal in nearby Watling Street Road, said the number of parking spaces was “adequate” and said there was enough “short-term, day-time parking” in surrounding streets.
