Today, Israelis mark five years since Staff Sergeant Gilad Shalit was abducted by Hamas terrorists within Israeli territory, near the Kerem Shalom crossing.
On June 25, 2006, eight members of the terrorist organization Hamas, armed with explosive charges, anti-tank missiles and light arms, used an underground tunnel to enter into Israeli territory and attack an Israeli army position. During the attack, members of the terrorist organization Hamas killed two Israeli soldiers, wounded three and abducted Gilad Shalit.
