A report in Arab media said that NATO was preparing a possible attack on Libya, if the government continued bombing protesters. Reports said that thousands had been killed in Libya after being bombarded by air and naval strikes. On Wednesday night, U.S. President Barack H. Obama said that a NATO attack on Libya was a possibility. A NATO official who spoke to the Al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper in London said that U.S. and NATO planes stationed in southern Italy were preparing for the mission Thursday morning.
Speaking Thursday, British Foreign Minister William Hague said that the UK would initiate a World Court investigation into Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi for crimes against humanity. In a separate interview, French Defense Minister Alain Juppé said that he hoped that Qaddafi would soon be deposed, and that if he was not, France would likely support sanctions against the country.
