Through the efforts of The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation, Ohr Torah Stone has received a $25,000 donation toward the purchase of a minibus for the Darkaynu Program (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmHDFYNb9r0 ), the unique Israel-experience program for post-high school teens with special needs. We need an additional $75,000 to reach our goal of purchasing the minibus.
Darkaynu gives students with developmental disabilities an opportunity for personal growth, the acquisition of life skills, independence and – most importantly – the chance to finally feel that they are full, contributing members of the Jewish community.
The program's greatest immediate need is the purchase of a minibus with a designated driver who is devoted to preserving both the safety and dignity of the program's students.
